Q – I have materials that need to be translated for use in China. I've heard of Mandarin, Cantonese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, but how do I know which I will need?
A – Mandarin and Cantonese refer to the spoken language, whereas Simplified and Traditional refer to the written language. Your requirements will depend on where your intended audience is located: Simplified Chinese characters are appropriate for Mainland China, and Traditional characters are appropriate for most other Chinese-speaking regions such as Hong Kong and Taiwan. However, it's not always that straight-forward, so we’ll work with you to provide guidance as to which dialects to use based on your specific parameters.
Q – How does Translation Memory work? Answer
Q – How does Translation Memory work?
A – A Translation Memory is effectively a language database populated with your approved translations. Each source phrase is paired one-for-one with its corresponding translation. When that same source phrase, or a similar one, appears as part of a new project, the database instantly recalls the previously approved translation and applies it to the current project. If the new source copy is not a 100% match with the legacy copy, the database highlights all differences so that the translation team may adjust the translation to match the current copy. And as the database grows with each completed project, you receive ever-increasing returns in the form of reduced costs, increased consistency, and shorter turnaround times.
